AIM 2012 Speakers

HE Mr. Rustam Nurgallyevich Minnikhanov

After graduating from the institute in 1978, he began his career as an engineer in Sabinsky District Association of Selkhoztekhnika. He then worked in the district as a senior engineer and chief power engineer in a state timber industry enterprise and was deputy chairman of District Consumer Society Board.
In 1985–1993 he worked in Arsky District as chairman of the District Consumer Society Board, Chairman of the Executive Committee of People's Deputies District Council, First Deputy Head of District Administration.
In 1993 he was appointed head of Vysokogorsky District administration and in November 1996 he was appointed minister of finance of the Republic of Tatarstan. From July 10, 1998 until March 25, 2010 he was prime minister of the Republic of Tatarstan. During his tenure as republican prime minister, Minnikhanov continued to be involved in industry, serving as chairman of the board of directors of the oil company Tatneft from 2005 to 2006. As prime minister, he was known for his enthusiasm for technological innovation, spearheading the republic's move to digital, paperless government and the streamlining of official business through the use of electronically distributed documents and electronic signing of official documents.
On January 27, 2010, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev nominated Rustam Minnikhanov to be the new president of Tatarstan and on March 25, 2010, Rustam Minnikhanov formally assumed the office of President.


HE Mr. Makhadoom Amin Fahim

Known as a humble politician, Makhdoom entered in the political arena in 1970 when he was elected as member National Assembly from southern district of Thatta in Sindh province. Since then, he has contested eight elections from elections held in 1977, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2002, 2007, remaining undefeated. Makhdoom Amin Fahim, however, boycotted the non-party elections of 1985 held by General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq-led military regime in line with the decision of his party. In 1993 he contested as MPA and MNA, and was the only Parliamentarian in Pakistan to win both seats unopposed. After that he gave up the MPA seat to his younger brother and he even came unopposed on it .
Makhdoom was offered the post of Prime Minister in 2002 by then President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, keeping in mind his party's leader Benazir Bhutto's refusal to appoint Mr. Amin Fahim's son Makhdoom Jameel Zaman as the Chief Minister Sindh, though he was offered the post of Prime Minister thrice before 1988-1990 and 1993. He remained loyal to his party and did not accept offers from then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the military dictators. Makhdoom Amin Fahim is currently the vice-chairman of PPP, and is also the Parliamentary Leader, (President) of the same party in the National Assembly. He was twice the Federal Minister in tenure of Benazir Bhutto. He was Communications Minister from December 1988 to August 1990, Railways Minister from December 1988 to March 1989. In the next tenure, he was Minister for Housing and Works from January 1994 to November 1996.


HE Mr. Enrique Meyer

Carlos Enrique Meyer (born in 1953) is an Argentine businessman and public official who was appointed as the nation's Minister of Tourism upon the post's establishment on July 1, 2010.
Meyer was born in Ramos Mejía, a western suburb of Buenos Aires and was raised in Puerto San Julián, in remote Santa Cruz Province. He completed four years of a Licentiate course in hospitality management studies in Buenos Aires, though he did not ultimately graduate. Meyer became a tour guide in 1979, and was later the proprietor of a Santa Cruz tour operator. He married the former María Lavirgen Enríquez, and they had three children.
Meyer entered public service upon his appointment as Provincial Minister of Tourism by the newly-elected Governor Néstor Kirchner, in 1991. He worked closely with private investors from early in his tenure, notably with the founder of The North Face outfitters, Douglas Tompkins, who in 1992 purchased a 20,000 hectare (50,000 acre) ranch along the Santa Cruz River to establish the first of numerous nature preserves owned by Tompkins in Argentina. He focused promotional efforts on El Calafate and the neighboring Los Glaciares National Park, and approved the construction of the Comandante Armando Tola International Airport at El Calafate, opened in 2000.


HE Mr. Gerald Tremblay

Gérald Tremblay was born on September 20, 1942, in Ottawa. A lawyer and member of the Barreau du Québec since 1970, Gérald Tremblay holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School. He developed a business turnaround concept while acting as senior partner and general manager of a consulting firm under the Sobeco Ernst & Young Group. After helping to revive the Fédération des caisses d'entraide économique du Québec, he was noticed by the Government of Québec, led at the time led by Robert Bourassa. He was president of the Société de développement industriel du Québec from 1986 to 1989, then served on the board of directors of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and the board of directors of the Hydro-Québec executive committee.
In 1989, Gérald Tremblay was elected as the Liberal MNA for Outremont and appointed as minister of Industry, Commerce, Sciences and Technology from 1989 to 1994. During his mandate, he designed and advanced Québec's economic development strategy based on the industrial cluster concept.

Gérald Tremblay was elected mayor of Montréal in 2001. In addition to his role as mayor, he is mayor of the Ville-Marie borough, chairman of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal and Montréal Agglomeration Council. He is also leader of the Union Montréal Party.

For ten years, Gérald Tremblay has been devoting his energy to developing Québec's metropolis by strengthening the city's financial situation, repairing infrastructures, promoting mass transit, rehabilitating the downtown area, reinvesting in culture, choosing sustainable development and supporting the new economy. All these actions are carried out based on the values established by the Montréal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities, which Gérald Tremblay gave the city.

In addition to being mayor of Montréal, Gérald Tremblay shoulders other responsibilities in various Canadian and international bodies. He is a member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) board of directors, and holds various positions within this organization's Big City Mayors Caucus. He is also director of the St. Lawrence/Quebec region under the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative. Furthermore, Gérald Tremblay is vice-president of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCGL), North America, and executive vice-president, treasurer and president of the METROPOLIS Commission sur le financement des services et des infrastructures and founding member of the World Mayors Council on Climate Change. Finally, he was elected vice-president of the International Association of Francophone Mayors and is an executive member of Mayors for peace.


HE Mr. Zafer Caglayanroup

Minister of Economy Zafer ÇAĞLAYAN began his career as a businessman and industrialist in 1980. In 1987, he was elected as an assembly member in Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO). He was the youngest industrialist to be elected to this position. In 1989, he became a member of the ASO Board of Directors. He initially served as the auditing member in the Board of Directors for two years until he became the Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1991.

Under his leadership, ASO was honored as "The Most Successful Organization" in 1997 due to the Organization's activities and proposals concerning the SMEs.

As an industrial magnate and the Head of ASO, he contributed to Turkey's development by administering and initiating major projects in the areas of economy, production, employment, industry, trade and SME's. He also developed a number of projects beneficial to 70,000 SMEs under "The Anatolian Approach", which was subsequently passed as a bill in 2006.
Mr. ÇAĞLAYAN was elected as the Vice-President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) for three times in between 1998 and 2007 for a total of 9 years.

He began his political career in 2007 as an elected MP of Ankara. Mr. ÇAĞLAYAN became the Minister of Trade and Industry until his appointment as the Minister of State in Charge of Foreign Trade, in May 2009. He has been serving as the Minister of Economy, since the establishment of the Ministry of Economy in July 2011.

Minister of Economy, Mr. ÇAĞLAYAN, has memberships in the Board of Trustees of both TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB-ETU) and Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV).
Minister ÇAĞLAYAN was born in 1957 in the province of Muş. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Gazi University and he speaks English. He is married, with two children.


HE Mr. Rishad Bathiudeen

Abdu Risad Badhiutheen (born November 27, 1972) is a Sri Lankan politician, a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and a government minister.


HE Mr. Olesegun Aganga

Since July 2011, HE Mr. Olesegun Aganga former Minister of Finance was redeployed by Nigerian President Goodman Jonathan to the new Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment.
Olusegun Aganga was a London-based managing director at U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs, where he headed up hedge fund consulting services and looked after the bank's business in Nigeria, before being picked by then-acting President Goodluck Jonathan to serve in the cabinet.
One of his main policy drives was to create a sovereign wealth fund to better manage Nigeria's oil revenue, and he has also worked closely with Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi to help push through badly needed reforms to the banking sector and capital markets. Before joining Goldman Sachs in 2001, he worked at accountancy firm Ernst & Young in London from 1989, and before that as an accountant in Nigeria. He holds degrees from Oxford University in Britain and the University of Ibadan in Nigeria.

Aganga previously worked in Arthur Young in Nigeria, Ernst & Young in London UK, and Goldman Sachs International in London, where he was Managing Director in hedge funds. Aganga was also a Board Member of the Nigerian Security and Exchange Commission Technical Committee on Nigerian Capital Market Structure and a former Chairman of the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) Prime Brokerage Committee. Aganga currently serves on a number of boards and committees including Technoserve and The Prince's Trust Invest in Futures Committee.

Aganga is married to Abiodun Aganga (née Awobokun). He has four children. He is also the brother-in-law to the former military Governor of Kwara State Group Captain Salaudeen Latinwo. His older sister is Mercy Latinwo


HE Mr. Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni

Hon. Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni was born on 28th July, 1949. He had his elementary education at the Kumbungu L/A Primary School (1955-1960) and proceeded to Savelugu L/A Middle school from (1960-1962).
Hon. Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni attended Tamale Secondary School from 1962-1969. Between 1969-1975, he entered University of Ghana and Ghana Law School for his (LL.B (Hons) and post graduate degree in law (LL.M). In October 1975, he obtained a BL qualification from the Ghana School of Law.
Hon. Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni was elected Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency for two terms (1996-2000; 2000-2004). While in Parliament, he served on various Parliamentary Select and Standing Committees. He was a member of the Standing Order Committee, a Ranking Member–Committee on Legal, Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs and a Ranking Member, Judiciary Committee.

In June 1998 he was the Vice-President of the 86th Session of the International Labour Conference , between June 1997 and 2000. He was the leader of the National Tripartite Delegation to the International labour Conference (85th to 88th Sessions). In those same years (1997-2000).

Under the first term of the Presidency of H.E. Flt. Lt. J.J. Rawlings, Hon. Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni was appointed to the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare as a Minister of State (Cabinet Rank).
He was also the National President for Old Tamascans Association, an association of past student of Tamale Secondary School between 1985 and 1997. He was the National President for Dagbon Youth Association (DAYA) between 1996 and 1997.

He was also the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Ghanaian-Danish Communities Association (GDCA), an NGO which initiated and is overseeing the implementation of the Ghanaian-Danish Community Project (GDCP); A DANIDA funded project working in the Tolon-Kumbungu District area of poverty alleviation and development intervention.

Between 1995 and 1997, he was the Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the School for Life Project – A DANIDA founded and supported NGO operating in functional literacy for children aged between eight and eleven in educationally depressed areas in the Northern Region.


Dr. Hage G. Geingob 

Hage Geingob (born 3 August 1941) was the first Prime Minister of Namibia after the country became independent on 21 March 1990. He served in this position from 1990 to 2002. From 2003 to 2004, he served as the Executive Secretary of the Global Coalition for Africa in Washington, D.C. Since 2007, he has been the Vice-President of the ruling South West Africa People's Orgamisation, and is currently also the Minister of Trade and Industry.

Early life
Geingob was born in the Grootfontein District of Namibia. He received his early education at Otavi in Namibia under the Bantu Education System. He joined the Augustineum Training College in 1958 where most of today's prominent political leaders of Namibia were educated.

University years
In 1964, Hage Geingob left for the United States to study. There, he was granted a scholarship at Temple University's Prep School. Subsequently, he obtained a BA degree from Fordham University in New York in 1970 and an MA degree in International Relations from the Graduate Faculty of The New School, New York in 1974.

In 1964, he was also appointed SWAPO Representative at the United Nations and to the Americas. He served in this position until 1971.


HE Mr. Riadh Betthaieb

Riadh Bettaieb was born on January 3rd, 1961 in Ben Gardane - a coastal town in southeastern Tunisia near the border with Libya.

Bettaieb graduated from the National School of Engineers in 1979. During his 20 years living in Paris, he was the head of the France-based Tunisian Solidarity Association.

After the Tunisian Revolution, Bettaieb returned to Tunisia to resume his political activities. He joined the High Authority for the Achievement of the Revolution's Objectives (HAARO).

He has been nominated as the Minister of International Cooperation and Investment


HE Ms. Mimoza Kusari-Lila

Mimoza Kusari-Lila holds a master of business administration in the United States of America. During this time, she continued studies at the Institute of Economics, University of Colorado and Duquesne University in Pittsburg, where she finished masters in e-business. Mimoza Kusari-Lila graduated management and information systems at University of Pristina, Faculty of Economics.
Mimoza Kusari-Lila returned to politics in the elections of 2009, running for the major of Gjakova municipality. After a long legal battle in regard to contested elections, in December 2009, she became the Vice-President of the New Kosovo Alliance.

Before being exposed to politics, Mimoza Kusari-Lila served as executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo (Am Cham), since 2006 to 2009, officially accredited by the American Chamber institution in Washington DC and the Association of American Chambers in Europe.

Mimoza Kusari-Lila became part of politics and public service in 2003 when she has been offered the position of spokeswomen and Adviser to Prime Minister of Kosovo, Bajram Rexhepi.
In 2001, Mimoza Kusari-Lila worked for the World Bank and USAID project to support Kosovo businesses. She also worked as project manager at the American University in Kosovo Foundation education plan for Kosovo, as well as in the establishment of the institution.

Her work resulted with the successful opening of the American University in Kosovo, now a leading educational institution in Kosovo and the region
