Andreas Dressler has been active in foreign direct investment (FDI) for 18 years. He works with companies to develop international expansion strategies, select the best locations for their operations, and implement cross-border investment projects. He also assists countries, regions and cities to promote themselves internationally and attract foreign direct investment.
Andreas’ areas of expertise include international market entry, location analysis and site selection, investment incentives, location benchmarking and competitive assessment, investment attraction, investment promotion and lead generation.
In 2009, Andreas established Terrain, an independent consulting firm focused entirely on foreign direct investment. Terrain provides a range of services to investment promotion agencies and companies worldwide and has grown quickly to become one of the most recognized advisory firms in this field. In 2013, Terrain became part of Conway Data.
Prior to starting Terrain, Andreas spent 13 years with KPMG, where he created a specialized FDI practice (Global Location & Expansion Services) and managed a global network of location advisory and economic development consultants. After 8 years with KPMG in the USA (Washington DC and New York) he moved to Germany in 2003 to build a market-leading FDI advisory group for KPMG in Europe while continuing to coordinate the firm’s global FDI activities.
Andreas’ clients include some of the world’s largest corporations as well as medium sized companies and technology-oriented start-ups. He has also worked with numerous investment promotion agencies from Europe, North America and the Middle East. Through this extensive experience, he has developed an in-depth understanding of how companies in different industries make location decisions and what it takes for locations to attract them. He is a sought-after speaker and coach on all topics related to foreign investment.
Andreas has lived in eight countries throughout his life and speaks five languages. He has a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies in Washington DC and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Bath in England.
