Union National Bank
Union National Bank (UNB) is a public joint stock company incorporated under the laws of the United Arab Emirates in 1982. UNB is the only bank in the UAE with significant shareholdings by the Governments of both Abu Dhabi (50%) and Dubai (10%). The remaining 40% of the shares are publicly held. The shares of UNB are listed on Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange.
UNB operates through a wide network of branches and ATMs throughout the UAE. UNB has extended its reach to Egypt through a successful acquisition of the erstwhile ACMB and currently operates in the country as UNB Egypt through a number of banking centres. It has ventured into Doha with a branch at the Qatar Financial Centre and has also opened a representative office in Shanghai China, being the first bank from the region to do so. Following approvals, UNB’s Kuwait Branch has been opened with a soft launch and is operational since Oct 2012.
UNB’s subsidiaries include, Union Brokerage Company (UBC) which provides brokerage services for clients at the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange and the Dubai Financial Market, Al Wifaq Finance Company (AWFC) offering Shari’a compliant products and services to the growing Islamic banking market and INJAZ Marketing Management which provides marketing management related services, including the planning, execution and marketing of products and services for UNB through a dedicated team of professional sales and marketing representatives
In its quest for excellence, UNB has adopted the Total Quality Management concepts and systems and business excellence framework. In the process it has received several prestigious accolades and third party validations. UNB scaled new heights in the field of Quality and Business Excellence by becoming the first ever Bank to receive the prestigious Diamond category Award at the 2012 Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Awards. The Bank has also won the SKEA award in 2002, followed by SKEA Gold in 2005 and again in 2009. UNB is also a winner of the prestigious Dubai Quality Award Gold Category in 2012 and the DQA Award twice in 2006 and 2009. UNB also won the coveted 2011 Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MRM) Business Award in the Finance Category for the second time, having earlier received this honor for the 2008 cycle.

In addition, the UNB CEO received the CEO of the Year Award at the CEO Middle East Awards 2010, Banking Category. UNB has also been conferred with the prestigious Superbrand Status in the UAE for 3 consecutive years from 2011, 2012 and in 2013. In 2011 UNB won the coveted People’s Choice Stevie Award for Favourite Companies in the Financial Services category and was also recognized as a Distinguished Honoree in two categories of the International Business Awards namely, Company of the year Financial Services and Executive of the Year Financial Services for UNB CEO Mr Mohammad Nasr Abdeen. In 2011 UNB became the first commercial bank in the world to be certified by M/s Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) Ltd. to the Integrated Management System (IMS) comprising of three standards, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. Earlier in 2002, UNB was the first bank of its size in the Middle East to be certified to ISO 9001 standards for a complete range of banking services across the Head Office and Branches. The ISO 9001 certification was successfully renewed in 2005 and again in 2008 with enhanced scope.
As an example of spreading good practices, the Integrated Management System (QMS, EMS and OHSAS) has been introduced to UNB subsidiaries, UBC and Al Wifaq. In 2012, both entities have been certified to the three standards by M/s LRQA, another first in the region. UNB’s customer feedback and complaint management process has been certified to the ISO 10002 standards in 2012.
As part of its CSR strategy UNB has embarked on an ambitious Sustainability drive within the organization. The inaugural 2011 UNB Sustainability Report was rated ‘A+’ by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), making it one of the first Banks in the region to achieve this distinction.
