Henry is widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on FDI and investment promotion. He has 20 years of FDI experience during which he has worked in the world’s leading FDI advisory and information companies and founded several start-ups, which have included a successful exit with a FTSE 100 company. Over his career, he has worked in over 60 countries and advised over 150 governments and multinational enterprises. Henry has pioneered new data sources on corporate expansion activity and location competitiveness, transforming our knowledge of FDI.
Following a Master’s Degree in International Political Economy and a VW-sponsored PhD on German and Japanese corporate FDI strategy, Henry started his career in PwC's International Investment Group before becoming Manager of Inward Investment in IBM-PLI, Co-Founder of OCO Global, and Product Director in the Financial Times.
Henry established WAVTEQ in 2010, growing rapidly to become the largest FDI group globally, with 75 FDI consultants, offices in 10 countries, and the following key services:
o Consulting: Investment Promotion Strategy; Marketing Locations; Corporate Research; FDI Training; and FDI Lead Generation / Investment Attraction. Since 2014, WAVTEQ has assisted EDOs/IPAs attract $15bn of greenfield FDI creating 1,000s of new jobs; and
o Products: Over 1,000 economic development and FDI related organizations have subscribed to WAVTEQ-developed products (fDi Markets, IncentivesMonitor, fDi Benchmark, FDI Accounting, FDI Professionals, and IPACRM.) Henry was the patent applicant for fDi Markets and fDi Benchmark.
Henry has over 50 presentations and publications which are widely considered authoritative guides for how to attract FDI, including “Framework for Investment Promotion” (published by UNCTAD) and “Handbook for Investment Promotion” (published by Columbia University).
Henry’s latest publications include: “How to Identify Inward Investors that will Contribute to Sustainable Development”; “The Impact of Brexit on FDI into the UK”; “How to Attract FDI from China”; and “A New Foreign Direct Investment Accounting Method for Economic Development Organizations”.
